How to get the most out of an Open Day

There are lots of benefits to attending a university Open Day. From finding out more about your academic department, discovering the facilities on campus, and exploring the local area, this is the ideal opportunity to get a real feel for university life.

To ensure you get the most out of your visit to the University of Chester we have put together an essential Open Day checklist:

Make sure you:

  • Find out more about your academic department: This is your opportunity to find out whether this is the right course for you. Make sure you attend academic talks, departmental tours and Q&A sessions. Make notes, take leaflets, and ask as many questions as you can!

  • View the facilities: Throughout the day there will be plenty of opportunities for you to view the many academic and recreational facilities we have to offer across all of our sites. Take a walk around campus on a student led campus tour, learn more about the library on a library tour, and discover more about where you will be studying on a departmental tour.

  • Take a tour of our accommodation: This is your chance to get a real feel for the accommodation that we have on offer by taking a look around some of our current students rooms. For more information why not attend an Accommodation talk where our accommodation staff will be on hand talk you through your options and how to apply.

  • Visit the Information Fair: Don’t forget to attend the Information Fair where staff and academics from all departments will be available to answer any of your questions relating to your studies, extracurricular activities and student support.

  • Get to grips with finance and funding: This is a subject that causes a lot of confusion for all new students. Make sense of the facts and figures and find out what support is available by attending one of our Finance and Funding talks.

  • Explore the local area: Your university experience won’t be limited to the campus. That’s why it’s important to get a good feel for the local area. Why not take a look at what’s going on in Warrington or Chester, or extend your visit and make a weekend of it.

Top tip: To make sure you fit everything in to your day it’s important to plan in advance. Don’t forget to take a look at your Open Day schedule before you arrive for times and locations.
