The Parkgate Road Campus in Chester is where our story began back in 1839. It comprises a unique mixture of historic and modern buildings, reflecting how the University has changed and grown over the years. Today, the campus offers a vibrant, self-contained student community just a short walk away from the city centre.

Excellent study spaces
Lecture theatres, seminar rooms and open-access computer rooms are conveniently located across the campus.
Our recently extended Seaborne Library is the perfect study space, housing an extensive collection of books, e-books and e-journals; bookable multimedia rooms; brand new, 24-hour-access computer suites; and the Hub; a comfortable two-floor study zone, suitable for independent and group study. And not forgetting the library café for when refuelling is required!
Support for students
The campus is also home to a range of support areas and central services, including our award-wining Student Support and Guidance team; Study Skills team; the Careers and Employability Centre, and University Chaplaincy. And with an on-campus team of friendly porters and out-of-hours support staff, you’re never far from a source of help and advice.
A residential campus
As well as being a learning site, Parkgate Road Campus is also home to a selection of residential halls. Many of our University halls and houses, alongside private sector housing, are available within a short distance from the campus, putting you right at the heart of the Chester experience.
When you’re not studying
There are a range of services and activities for you to access on campus during your free time, whether that’s catching up with friends over a coffee in one of our cafes and restaurants; going for a swim or attending a fitness class in between lectures; or heading out with friends for a night out at the Students’ Union. Chester Students’ Union provides a hub of support, opportunities and entertainment for all students at the University, including the running of over 100 sports and societies – so there’s plenty to keep you busy!
Parkgate Road Campus also has a bookshop, a bank and Students’ Union shop all located conveniently on campus, so everything you need is at your fingertips.
