Make a weekend of it...

If you've recently booked yourself onto one of our ever popular Applicant Days, whilst you’re visiting the University, why not stay in the area a little longer and find out what else Chester and Cheshire has to offer?

We’re always keen for our applicants to visit us. It’s the best way of finding out whether a particular University feels right for you. However, my advice here would be to not just focus on the University itself (although this is obviously very important) but to also check what there is to do in the surrounding area. After all, in choosing a university, you’re also choosing the location and this can obviously have a bearing on your overall student experience.

So, when visiting the University of Chester, why not plan some additional excursions around the Applicant Day itself? Perhaps make a weekend of it? Here are a few suggestions of popular attractions you might like to visit whilst you’re visiting either Chester or Warrington.

Chester City Centre

Chester is one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions. And if you take the time to visit the city, you’ll immediately see what all the fuss is about. In a recent poll, Chester was voted the 5th prettiest city in Europe and is also one of the top 10 best places to visit in the UK. If you’re keen to see for yourself what there is to do in Chester, you’ll be spoilt for choice. City centre attractions include: the Grosvenor Shopping Centre; the unique Chester Rows, the city’s medieval two-tiered shopping centre; the Grosvenor Museum; the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain; Chester boat hire and river cruises; and the most complete Roman and medieval city walls in Britain. And all that really is just the tip of the iceberg!

Chester Zoo

Just on the outskirts of the city, you’ll find England’s most visited tourist attraction outside London and the highest placed wildlife attraction in the UK… Chester Zoo. With over 400 species and 11,000 animals, as well as 110 acres of award-winning gardens to explore, we’d recommend putting a day aside for visiting the zoo.

Cheshire Oaks

If you enjoy picking up a bargain, you might like to make your way to Europe’s first designer outlet village, Cheshire Oaks. Only a five-minute drive from our new Science and Engineering campus, at Cheshire Oaks you will find designer labels sold at discount prices, reduced by up to 60%. So, whilst pondering your prospects at the University of Chester, why not also treat yourself to some retail therapy?

Warrington Cultural Quarter

If you are due to attend an Applicant Day at our Warrington Campus, you might like to take a look at Warrington’s Cultural Quarter, where you’ll find a host of places to eat out, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Warrington’s centre for arts and leading theatre venue, the Pyramid and Parr Hall
