With exciting topics to study at the forefront of mathematics and excellent career prospects, there are many reasons to make Chester your University of choice when it comes to studying Mathematics.

A unique campus experience

Located at Thornton Science Park, you’ll be studying in a major innovation hub with scientific research and development at its forefront. Offering a unique blend of industry, innovation and academia all within one site, you’ll be encouraged to not only develop your own ideas, but to make them a reality. Furthermore, as Thornton is a working science park, there are a number of science and technology-based companies also located on site!

Excellent research opportunities

The Department of Mathematics is highly research-active, focusing on topics at the forefront of mathematical development. In 2014 we gained recognition in the Research Excellence Framework for our ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ research.

Already thinking about what you might do with your Mathematics degree? To help you decide, the course includes a variety of project work, allowing you to explore both the application of Mathematics and current research topics

Employability

Whilst obtaining a degree is an excellent achievement, it often takes a lot more to get noticed by employers. That’s why we extend our support outside of the classroom by actively encouraging our students to explore the endless career possibilities awaiting them as a graduate of Mathematics.

This February sees our second Careers Fair at Thornton Science Park. As part of the event, students at all level of study are invited to attend to speak to employers from a variety of industries, including HMRC, entrepreneurs based at the University’s Riverside Innovation Centre, and representatives of onsite technology companies at Thornton Science Park. Valued highly by our current students, this is a great opportunity to find out useful tips on how to tackle application forms and stand out during interviews.

It’s more than just books

We know there’s a lot more to studying Mathematics than books, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice. Why not opt for our excellent work-based learning opportunity during your second year, and swap the classroom for a real work setting? You may also have the chance to take part in off-campus trips, where you can discover the significance of mathematics in the real world. Next month we’ll be taking students and staff to Bletchley Park, the home of Second World War code breakers and the birthplace of modern information technology.
