Your Guide to Clearing

Your results are in, but you didn’t quite make the grades? Don’t worry! You can still apply for a place on an alternative course or at another University through clearing.

Below is a step by step guide outlining all you’ll need to know about applying to Chester through Clearing.

1) Log in to Track

If you are in Clearing, your Clearing number will be displayed on Track. If your offer is still showing as Conditional, you should contact the University concerned to find out why this is. If you applied for a place at Chester, but didn’t quite make the grades, then contact us. We may be able to reconsider you, or offer you an alternative place on a different course.

2) Take a look at our Course Vacancies

A list of all of our available courses can be viewed on our website. Read through our course profiles to see if we offer anything that suits you. Your college, school or careers office will be able to help.

3) Contact us for a place

Once you have decided on the course that you would like to study at Chester then give us a call and we’ll see if we are able to offer you a place. Make sure you have your results and UCAS Personnel ID/ Applicant Number to hand. To do this telephone 01244 567470, or email clearing@chester.ac.uk.

4) Lines busy? Don’t give up!

This is a very busy time, so if we are not able to answer your call you will be placed in a queue. Our Clearing advisors will do everything they can to answer all of the calls as quickly as possible so you shouldn’t have to wait too long.

5) Be open to different options

If we are unable to offer you a place on your chosen course we may offer you something similar. Remember, this will determine the next three years of your life, so make sure you pick the right option for you!

6) Accept your place

Once we have offered you a place log in to Track and ‘Add Clearing choice.’ You will need to fill in the course details by the deadline that was given to you on the phone by one of our Clearing advisors. This counts as you definitely accepting the offer. Once we confirm, it will show as an acceptance on the choices page of Track. You will then receive a confirmation letter in the post.

7) Visit us

If you accept a place with us through Clearing and you haven’t already looked at Chester, you may find it useful to visit us. The best way to do this is by booking on to one of our Campus Tours. To do this telephone 01244 512800, or email: visitus@chester.ac.uk.

8) Don’t forget Student Finance!

If you haven’t already completed a Student Finance application you will need to do so now. If you have already made an application, but your choice of University has changed, it is essential that you log these changes on your online account.  For more information on this take a look at this brief video
