    Importance of economics in the current Brexit environment

    We are connected with economics all the time, even if we don’t realise it. When we think of which cereals to choose for our breakfast or when we make decisions about where to spend our holidays, or simply when we decide between going out for a meal or staying at home, the rationale behind those thoughts is related to economics. Do we have enough ‘income’ for a holiday abroad or will a modest camping week have to do? Can we go for the fanciest cereals or can we only afford the basic supermarket brand?

    5 Christmas Shopping Hacks on a Student Budget

    Christmas is a little over a week away, and the pressure to buy gifts for those close to you is probably mounting! Unfortunately, your budget is more than likely stretched to the max already and at this point and you’re probably questioning how you’ll make another 3 days’ worth of meals out of a Bombay Bad Boy Pot Noodle, half a loaf of questionably stale bread, a pot of thyme seasoning and the single frozen Yorkshire pudding you found at the back of the freezer!

    Each year, the Animal Psychology students go on a trip to Chester Zoo where they have the opportunity to see behaviours in action in a variety of fascinating species and to collect some data in a mini-project designed in teams. This year, one of these teams, led by Tom, provided a taste of the day.

    Find out what our First and Second Year Marketers have been up to

    Tuesday 5th December

    Our first year students visited Chester Cathedral as part of their first assignment. The Operations Director at Chester Cathedral gave the group some insight into the day to day running of the Cathedral, the challenges faced and the Marketing techniques used in order to encourage visitors to the Cathedral. The students experienced the tower tour and were given a display by the team who run the Falconry, despite the heavy rain!

    It’s estimated that there’s currently over 500,000 people working in the sport industry in the UK and, given the impetus of the London Olympics, the World Athletics Championships and other major sporting events, this figure is set to grow quickly.

    The Sport Marketing and Management programme at the University of Chester is aimed at those who aspire to work in management and marketing roles within the sport industry. It will also be of interest to individuals already working in the sector who are looking for an academic platform to further enhance their career prospects.

    Top Tier Finance Firms in Students' Sights at Chester

    In Accounting and Finance at Chester students receive support and guidance to help them progress to employment with workshops and interview skills tips from firms like KPMG and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Professional bodies like the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, (CIMA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) are also regular visitors, advising students on employability skills and career progression.
